The Environmental Protection Agency regulates tap water under the Safe Drinking Water Act, yet its existing contaminant candidate lists do not include a specific limit for microplastics. The European Food Safety Authority has published reviews of microplastic risks in food and beverages, recommending further monitoring and standardized testing methods.
