Original Animated Series Voice Cast

The original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! series, produced by Hanna-Barbera and first broadcast by CBS in 1969, featured a core voice cast that became iconic. Don Messick voiced Scooby-Doo and Astro, while Casey Kasem provided the voice of Shaggy Rogers, and Frank Welker voiced Fred Jones. The series established the formula of a mystery-solving team that later influenced countless spinoffs and reboots. Joseph Barbera and William Hanna's production company, Hanna-Barbera, was acquired by Turner Broadcasting in 1991, which later merged with Time Warner to form Warner Bros. Discovery.

Following the original 1969 series, the voice cast expanded across multiple series and direct-to-video films. Matthew Lillard was cast as Shaggy in the live-action films and later became the primary voice of the character in the animated series Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated. Grey DeLisle has voiced Daphne Blake in numerous series since the early 2000s, and Mindy Cohn took over the role of Velma Dinkley from Nicole Jaffe. The current main voice cast for the Scooby-Doo animated series on Cartoon Network and Max includes Frank Welker, Grey DeLisle, and Mindy Cohn, with the franchise generating billions in merchandise revenue for Warner Bros. Discovery.

Live Action Film and Television Cast

The first live-action Scooby-Doo film, released in 2002 by Warner Bros. Pictures, featured a principal cast that included Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred Jones, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne Blake, Matthew Lillard as Shaggy Rogers, and Linda Cardellini as Velma Dinkley. The film was directed by Raja Gosnell and grossed over $275 million worldwide against a budget of $84 million. Scooby-Doo (2002) became one of the highest-grossing films based on a cartoon that year, leading to a sequel, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, in 2004, which also featured the same core cast.

In 2020, Warner Bros. released the animated film Scoob!, which featured a new voice cast for the main characters. Will Forte voiced Shaggy, Amanda Seyfried voiced Daphne, Zac Efron voiced Fred, and Gina Rodriguez voiced Velma, with Frank Welker reprising his role as Scooby-Doo. The film was directed by Tony Cervone and produced by Warner Animation Group, with a screenplay written by Matt Lieberman and Adam Sztykiel. WarnerMedia, the parent company at the time, reported the film as part of its animation slate in its annual SEC filing, noting the strategy to leverage classic IP for streaming and theatrical releases.
