What Dinosaur Is Bigger Than the T Rex

Largest Dinosaurs Ever Discovered

Paleontologists now recognize several species that exceeded the T Rex in both length and mass. The T Rex measured about 12.3 meters long and weighed up to 8.4 metric tons, but titanosaurs and theropods from the Late Cretaceous and Jurassic periods surpassed these dimensions in multiple published studies and museum exhibits National Geographic.

Current estimates place the longest and heaviest known dinosaurs in groups such as Argentinosaurus, Patagotitan, and Amphicoelias, with body lengths ranging from 30 to 40 meters and weights from 50 to more than 70 metric tons Britannica.

Species That Were Bigger Than T Rex

Argentinosaurus huinculensis, described from fossils found in Argentina, is frequently cited as one of the largest land animals ever, with estimated lengths of 30 to 35 meters and body masses around 70 metric tons, far exceeding the T Rex National Geographic.

Paleontologists also highlight Patagotitan mayorum, a titanosaur from Patagonia whose skeleton mounts in museums, with published estimates near 37 meters long and 69 metric tons, making it one of the most massive dinosaurs currently recognized Britannica.

How Scientists Measure Dinosaur Size

Researchers use partial skeletons, trackways, and scaling equations based on related species to estimate length and mass, with newer studies applying volumetric models and bone circumference correlations National Geographic.

Ongoing fieldwork in Argentina, Patagonia, and other fossil-rich regions continues to refine these estimates, with museum mounts and peer-reviewed publications providing updated figures that place several species above the T Rex in size rankings Britannica.
