The structure is a cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 720 meters. Engineers completed the bridge in 2016, and it opened to traffic shortly after, replacing a long, winding mountain route.

It surpasses earlier record holders such as the Sidu River Bridge and the Pingnan Third Bridge, also in China. The ranking is based on the vertical distance from the bridge deck to the lowest point of the gap beneath.
